Frequently Asked Questions
Can I conduct the inspections myself?
Inspections and testing must be performed by qualified professionals holding FDNY-issued Certificates of Fitness and employed by a licensed MFSPC (Master Fire Suppression Piping Contractor), such as Capitol Fire Sprinkler. While requirements may vary in other jurisdictions, it is a liability for an unqualified individual to perform these inspections.
What are the requirements for inspections and testing of a fire pump?
There are two different types of tests required for a fire pump:
- Monthly fire pump churn test - The pump must be run for 10 minutes every month to ensure proper operation of the fire pump
- Annual Full Flow fire pump performance test - Pressure readings are taken as the fire pump is run through its various stages. Results are recorded and plotted on a graph to ensure the pump is operating as intended.
I have an inspection contract with you- why did i receive a violation?
There is an additional test, known as the 5-year test, that must be conducted in the presence of the FDNY. The timing of this test cannot be predicted, which may result in a notice from the FDNY appearing as a violation.
